Girl Scout Troop 760 has been sponsored by St. John’s Church since January 2004. According to Girl Scouts of the United States of America, our national organization, sponsors of troops may be any individual, group, or organization that supports the four program goals of Scouting: helping girls
• Develop to their full potential.
• Relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect.
• Develop a meaningful set of values to guide their actions and to provide for sound decision-making.
• Contribute to the improvement of society.

St. John’s has supported Troop 760 by providing a meeting place, involving troop members in service projects and Church activities, and offering the expertise of Parish members.

The troop consists of seven intelligent, vivacious young women, ages 13 – 15, from four different school districts and widely divergent interests. All the girls are working towards their Silver Awards, the highest award in Scouting for girls in 6th through 9th grade. Earning the Silver Award requires each girl to develop leadership, self-awareness, and content skills that prepare her to complete a service project of at least 30 hours. Skills are gained by completing the Leadership Award, Cadette Challenge, Dreams to Reality Career Exploration Project, and three badges related to the Silver Award project. The range of planned Silver projects in Troop 760 encompasses camping, animal protection and preservation, fashion, sports, and horseback riding. They are indeed an eclectic group!

One of the more visible manifestations of the partnership between the Troop and the Parish is the interior decorating in the Youth Room. The Troop met with an interior designer, planned the design for the room, selected paint and painting materials, prepared the walls and ceiling, taped and painted the same, made and hung curtains, built a coffee table, obtained donated carpeting, and laid padding and carpeting. The result is a unique space that can be comfortably used by various groups of young people.

Troop 760 is deeply grateful to the Parish of St. John’s Church for its hospitality and support in creating an environment “where girls grow strong.
