Education

St. John’s takes discipleship seriously, and strives to provide all with knowledge and tools needed for living out the Gospel. Offerings for children and adults include scriptural study, an orientation to Episcopal traditions and practices, engagement with current events and exploration of diverse theological viewpoints.

Saint John’s Sunday School aims to meet the developmental needs of the whole child where he/she is physically, emotionally, cognitively, socially and spiritually. Saint John’s teaching staff seeks to bring the good news of Jesus Christ and the love of God to children through music, art, games and story using the Children’s Formation curriculum of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. Outreach to those in need is emphasized as an important aspect of discipleship. Children and Youth meet in four age groupings on Sunday mornings, with those aged 13 and above attending the Eucharist and then meeting afterwards. All children join in the Eucharist at the Peace, and stay for the remainder of the service.

An All Ages service is held on the first Sunday of every month, with an order of worship that is accessible to people at multiple life stages. Multiple formats for Adult Education are used at St. John’s. The Rector offers Inquirers’ Classes for young people and adults who desire confirmation or reception into the Church. These classes are scheduled throughout the year in preparation for the Bishop’s parish visit. Please contact the church office for the next class. Topical programs are offered during the year to reflect the wide variety of issues that affect God’s people. Recent topics have included “Basics & Beyond” (an introduction to Episcopal theology), sermon reflections, world religions, and book study groups. Please check the calendar for current offerings.
